Best Cape Coral Restaurants - Iguana Mia

You can’t miss this obnoxiously lime green Mexican restaurant with the magenta patio on the north side of Cape Coral Parkway. But don’t be put off by the colors! This is a fun and delicious Mexican restaurant.

Iguana Mia Cape Coral, Florida

I always prefer to sit on the covered patio with its center fountain – but the interior is nice, too. The service typically matches the food – consistently good.

We love their chips and two types hot and mild salsa that arrive just after you are seated. They provide individual salsa bowls so that you can mix as much hot and mild salsa together as you like and enjoy the spice level of your choosing.

Dave loves their fish quesadilla and I usually order sour cream chicken flautas with flour tortillas. We also order their nachos and fajitas. Can’t actually remember ordering anything we didn’t like (except in 2001, before the current management took over).

All their meals come with rice and beans standard, but you can substitute any of their sides. I prefer their corn-on-the-cob and fruit for my sides.

They have a nice children’s menu with a Mexican pizza, quesadillas and mini corndogs – a slight variation on the usual kid’s menu theme. My boys order the fruit side and it usually comes before the meal and just as they tire of the chips. The restaurant does offer a coloring page and color crayons.

You can call ahead to have your name put on the waiting list, but be aware that they refuse to seat incomplete parties. If not all of your guests are there, they will put you back in the lobby to wait while other diners who are ready to order get the table.

They have a mariachi band serenade the diners about twice a week on a rotating schedule (they have three southwest Florida locations).

If you can prove it’s your birthday (driver’s license or birth certificate required) on the day you dine at Iguana Mia, your meal is free – including free fried ice cream and a cheesy photo of you in a sombrero. Kids 10 and under can always eat free on Sunday when an adult purchases an entrée for $10 or more.

If you are there, grab their take-out menu. They offer curbside carry-out from 4 p.m. to close and have this crazy great deal on tacos for six. For $20 you can call ahead and they will bring out to your car a buffet of well-packaged fresh cooked ground beef, lettuce, sour cream, cheese, chips, salsa and either hard or soft taco shells. They will even include plates and silverware if you request it. This is a refreshing change from ordering in pizza or Chinese if you are not in the mood to cook. There are other items on their take-out menu, but we haven’t tried them yet.
