Once you have identified defendants in Cape Coral foreclosures, you can do preliminary online research a couple of places. One place to look is the Lee County Property Appraisers website.

1. Go to the Lee County Property Line.



2. Scroll down the left hand side of the page until you find “Database Search” and click on it.
3. Read and accept the terms of use disclaimer.
4. On this new page select “Real Property Search”.
5. Enter the defendant’s last name and the first letter of their first name then click “Start Search”.
6. When you locate the defendant, click on the numbers in the column labeled “Strap”. This takes you to a page labeled “Property details”.

This is a preliminary research that may provide you with a possible address for the foreclosure. To verify, you must review the case file at the Lee County Justice Center. If you want to do another cross reference check before you go to the Lee County Justice Center, make note of the property’s legal description from the above search and then try the following:

1. Go to the Lee County Clerk online.


2. Scroll down the left hand side of the page until you find “Search/Download Official Records and Land Records” and click on it.
3. Click on “Public Search”.
4. Read and accept the terms of use disclaimer.
5. On this new page enter the defendant’s last name then their first name in the empty “Name” field. Click “Search Records”.
6. From the search results, locate the defendant’s name in the “Name” column. In the column “First Crossparty Name” look for the plaintiff. Usually you can click on the number to the left of the “Name” column and see the document listed in the “Type” column. However, if the property is in foreclosure, you shouldn’t be able to look at any documents. But sometimes the “Comments” column contains a legal description of the property which you can then cross reference with your findings in the above search.

The next step is to verify your findings at the Lee County Justice Center.
