Best Cape Coral Restaurants - Origami

Who would imagine a great sushi restaurant would exist in the Cape Coral area?

I have never been a big fan of eating raw fish, despite my husband’s dedicated attempts to lure me into sushi bars for the past 20 odd years. I usually let him drag me with him then order tempura or some other tame menu item.

And then I tried the Maine Lobster Tail from the Origami Cooked Rolls menu . . . oh . . . my . . . goodness!

Origami is tucked away in a Ft. Myers strip mall

Now, every time we are in town we go to Origami. I cannot get enough of their delicious, fresh food.

Forget tempura! Anyone can sell that to you (although it is fabulous at Origami). Now we order a selection of different rolls from the cooked, mixed and fresh fish Sushi Specials Menu and try to decide which ones we like the best. No matter what we put in our mouth, we are happy.

The problem is that, in addition to their regular menu, they have nightly specials – which we feel compelled to try. And we are never disappointed, just left wishing we had the capacity to eat more.

I am looking at their menu as I write this and wishing I was back in Cape Coral! There are a few things on the menu I still haven’t tried. Sigh. My favorites include Unagi Lover, Crazy Dragon, and Origami Jumbo. Dave raves about the Sunburnt Tuna Sashimi and the Hot Mango.

Our children like to watch the sushi chefs at work.

If you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. While we have occasionally received fast service at Origami, it is the exception rather than the norm. You want to take a healthy appetite and plan for a leisurely paced meal.

Our children like the menu at Origami, too. They offer children’s portions of things such as tempura, chicken or beef skewers. Gunnar, my oldest, ignores the kid options and eats two or three bowls of Miso soup – he prefers to call it seaweed soup and brags to all his friends about eating it.

While our children like the food, they tend to get impatient with the wait. Origami has added a few outdoor tables, and the boys do better when we sit outside and let them play in the courtyard while our food is prepared.

Overall, this is our favorite area restaurant. Enjoy!
